This Courtyard by Marriott is located in one of San Diego’s most prominent downtown landmarks, the former San Diego Trust & Savings Bank. Built in the 1920s, the Italian Renaissance styled building was once the grande dame of banks. SERA recently renovated the guestrooms, lobby, bar, dining room and meeting rooms.
The redesign of the lobby was challenging because of its historic designation. The goal was to marry the human element with the grand proportions of the architecture following the strict guidelines of San Diego’s historical code. The interior renovation enhances the overall feel and function of the lobby by providing more gathering, lounging as well as intimate spaces in what is currently a very voluminous lobby. Upgraded lighting provides more focus on the ceiling, bringing out the intricate details and unique patterns.
The guestrooms renovation included replacing all finishes and casework. The design ties nicely back to the lobby highlighting pattern, richness of finishes and has a sophisticated, airy feel. The rooms have added amenities such as coffee, refrigerators and incredible views. The renovation also included updating the Presidential Suite, seating area and bathroom with furnishings that provide a more sophisticated environment.
