Indigenous People’s Day 2022

In honor of Indigenous People’s Day on Monday, we recognize and show our respect for Native People who have understood for generations how to live in harmony with the land, water, and all other living things. SERA has learned so much about tribal culture and world views from working with the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians—we are thankful for their wisdom, guidance, and knowledge to be gained in the future. We hope you will join us today in working to better understand the land we live, work, and play on (stolen generations ago) as we work to amplify Indigenous People’s voices.

Numerous events are happening throughout Portland and Oregon in the coming days in honor of Indigenous People’s Day. Here are a few resources where you can find an activity or event to celebrate and honor our region’s indigenous people.

Confluence is an organization dedicated to the indigenous history, living cultures, and ecology of the Columbia River system. If you’re looking to connect with the beauty of our area through art and the natural landscape, they provide resources for self-guided river tours, and they’re hosting events throughout October.

Support indigenous artists through the Portland Indigenous Marketplace.

PDX Parent lists this Saturday, kid-friendly celebration hosted by Clackamas County, which features storytelling, a scavenger hunt, and a native art marketplace.

PDX Monthly’s listing includes some ways to learn more about whose land you’re on and some Oregon Public Radio educational resources. You can also find out ways to support the Oregon Native Chamber and the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA).
