SERA designed a new chapel and performing arts center for Corban College, located in Salem, Oregon. This Christian private college desired a building that would serve as the new signature building for their campus, and provide space for worship services, music performances (choral and instrumental) and drama. It also house Corban College’s school of music. The chapel features an innovative 750-seat performing arts center that includes a traditional proscenium stage and a combination flat floor, fixed riser seating main house that can accommodate a wide range of campus and community events.
The chapel was designed in conjunction with a new main plaza at the heart of the campus to create a new center for student life.
In addition, Corban College seeks to grow in an orderly and responsible manner consistent with its desire to nurture a sense of Christian community and environmental stewardship. SERA also created a conceptual plan for the campus, envisioning an academic village on a hill anchored by a terraced landscaped plaza. Punctuated by a clock tower and enhanced watercourse, the plaza will function as the focal point and hub of campus life. The principal college buildings open onto the plaza, including the new 750-seat chapel and performing arts center nestled into the terraced hillside.
