Park 19 is located in Northwest Portland within the Alphabet Historic District and is adjacent to Couch Park, the center of Portland’s oldest neighborhood. SERA’s design for this six-story, mixed-use building consists of 100 market rate rental apartments, ground floor retail, and below grade parking. The architecture features bay windows, an overhanging cornice, and a central landscaped courtyard facing this historic neighborhood park. Park 19 achieved a LEED NC Gold certification from the USGBC.
Park 19 was designed to complement the rich history of the Alphabet District and is inspired by the early 20th century streetcar apartment buildings found in the neighborhood. SERA met with the Northwest District Neighborhood Association land use committee actively over a period of several months to develop a concept for the site that takes advantage of its unique location. By recalling the proportions and massing of these classic courtyard apartments, Park 19 has a timeless and elegant frontage to Couch Park and has become a model for respectful infill projects within this historic district.
