Situated along the Willamette River and Portland’s South Waterfront greenway, Sanctuary apartments is an idyllic urban refuge for residents who enjoy outdoor recreation. Comprised of two buildings with a total of 182 units, the development offers in-room bike storage, a pet and bike wash station, fully-equipped fitness room, and both a community courtyard and rooftop terrace overlooking the Willamette River, each with gas grills, lounge areas and fire pits.
Formerly a brownfield, the site was remediated and native vegetation was planted throughout. The new native landscape is connected to an expanded greenway trail implemented as part of the project. The trail includes riverside viewing points and park benches for the public. Additionally, all building and site stormwater is managed onsite.
Inspired by the river culture of the Pacific Northwest, the buildings’ grey and blue tones reflect the ever-changing weather of its stunning landscape.
