The Admiral Apartments is a five-story, 37-unit affordable apartment building, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Originally built in 1909, a 1980s era renovation converted the building to affordable housing. SERA worked with REACH Community Development on an initial feasibility study to assess the existing building’s condition and investigate the potential for rehabilitation. The study proved the cost-effectiveness of renovating the building to meet REACH’s goal. SERA worked with Walsh Construction to complete the construction and provide affordable downtown housing for elderly tenants.
The project replaced failing building mechanical systems, restored the historic exterior, and included a limited seismic upgrade, required accessibility improvements, corrected outstanding deferred maintenance items, and included complete replacement of interior finishes.
