SCUP Honors OSU Cascades Plan

This week, the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) recognized our project, the Oregon State University Cascades Long Range Development Plan with the 2018 Honor Award of Excellence in Planning for a New Campus. The SCUP Excellence Awards program is a national “juried competition that showcases how using strategic, integrated planning can result in exemplary buildings, grounds, institutional success, and careers that inspire.”
SERA led the campus design and sustainability efforts, in partnership with campus planning prime consultant Page, for the new campus, in Bend, Oregon. This master plan will expand the campus from its initial 10-acre, 3-building facility to a full 128-acre campus, serving 5,000 students.
The plan addresses multiple facets of planning:
- Preparing a technically complex site – including a former pumice mine over 100 feet deep and a former demolition landfill – for development
- Siting academic, campus life and residential facilities for the university’s growth
- Laying out a vision for an Innovation District, to allow for a variety of partnerships with emerging businesses and the community, and
- Accommodating district systems and strategies that will help OSU Cascades’ campus meet their aspirational performance goals of a net-zero energy and waste, carbon- and water-neutrality.
Congratulations to our team: Page, PAE, Biohabitats, Walker Macy, ABHT, DOWL and Karen Braitmayer!
